The
Club
IN VINO VERITAS
I call this page, rather ambitiously, Bulgarian Wine Connoisseur Club.
In fact it will start out as a message board where readers will have the
opportunity to share their opinion and experience with others. I will welcome
all relevant comments on bulgarian wine and on wine in general. Please
feel free to post any information on bulgarian wine here. I will appreciate
your tasting notes, price considerations, addresses of merchants, stores,
and restaurants selling or serving Bulgarian wine in your city, town, or
area. News articles, magazine reviews, book publications, advertisements.
Anything.
Needless
to say that I will be extremely happy to participate in discussions about
wine and wine making techniques. I do make my own stuff so share your knowledge,
and any tips and traditions of yours, your family, and your country.
How is it going to work? It will be most convenient for me to receive
your comments by e-mail. I will duly post them on the board so that they
will be immediately available for others to read. If language
is an issue, you can write to me in English. French, Russian, Serbo-Croatian,
and Bulgarian of course. I will be glad to post the original message as
well as a humble translation of mine in the English language.
If there is an adequate response, I will consider a form based message
board that will facilitate interaction. For now, however I think that my
e-mail address is sufficient.
I will also appreciate any technical feedback about the site.
I wish you all interesting discussions!

Please put me on the mailing list for anything concerning Bulgarian
Wines.
I was in Bulgaria in May 97 - had a great time. The Wine and Food was
excellent. The price was unbelievably cheap. In fact the friend I
traveled with has been to over 50 countries - and he states that
Bulgaria was the best bargain he has seen.
We had a great time in Golden Sands and Sofia. We recommend staying
at Maria Luzia Hotel when in Sofia. It is a couple of blocks from the
Sheraton. We highly recommend the restaurant in the basement of the
Hotel!!

Hello,
I saw your websites on the Internet as I was doing a search for
Bulgarian Wines. This past summer my partner and I traveled through
Eastern Europe and discovered good Bulgarian wine. Upon traveling to
Poland, we read in our handy little travel guide that Poland doesn't
make its own wines but rather imports their wine from Hungary and
Poland. Having just come from Hungary and not being that impressed
with their wine, and also not being all that impressed with Polish
beer, we figured we'd go with the Bulgarian wine while out to dinner.
In Krakow, Poland we ate at this truly devine restaurant that served
Bulgarian wines. Wanting a chardonnay, the waiter recommended a Sofia
chardonnay that turned out to be absolutely fabulous. We were really
hooked. The next evening at another restaurant, we tried another
Bulgarian wine, it wasn't Sofia, but some other white. It too was
good, but not as good as the Sofia. We went to a local liquor store
and purchased a bottle of the Sofia chardonnay to bring back to the
United States with us, figuring we would get more when we got back
here and knowing that we were limited in how much liquor we could
bring back into the states without paying a duty. We were kicking
ourselves as we came through customs and they 1) never checked our
bags, and 2) never asked if we were bringing in alcohol. We probably
could have brought back more and not been caught. To make matters
worse, we have since found out that local liquor stores don't carry
much along the lines of Bulgarian wines. A local merchant explained
that Bulgaria doesn't import its good wines to the US. All he can get
his hands on is the mass-produced stuff that isn't all that good.
So, I'm in search of a way that I can obtain some of the good
Bulgarian wines. We would love to purchase more of the Sofia
chardonnay. Any advice?
